DENVER (AP) - Colorado Congresswoman Diana DeGette warns that a stalemate in Washington is holding up money for security during next year's Republican and Democratic national conventions.
DeGette and fellow Democratic Representative Betty McCollum of Minnneosta say the host cities -- Denver and Minneapolis -- might have to front tens of millions of dollars for security.
Lawmakers from both states are asking Congress to appropriate money for the conventions by the end of the year or soon after.
Convention security is expected to cost about $50 million dollars in both sites and will covered by the federal government. The host cities are expected to raise another $50 million dollars each to stage the conventions.
